13 Jul Sexual Assault: What can we do?
We are bringing together collaborators to rapidly innovate solutions for complex problems.
After a successful launch of XSolve in December, we’re hitting the ground running in 2017 with our second event where we’ll be looking for solutions to tackle sexual assault.
Did you know that nearly half a million adults are sexually assaulted in England and Wales each year? And, contrary to common belief, this figure is inclusive of all genders.
1 in 5 of adult women have experienced some form of sexual violence and 1 in 3 UK female students have been sexually assaulted or abused on campus.
In Manchester alone there were 1850 reported crimes of rape or attempted rape in 2015. And they’re only the crimes which were reported. Sexual assault is still seen as taboo in society, it’s something that people don’t often want to talk about and are happy to ignore. Let’s change that, let’s work together to build, produce and ideate revolutionary solutions that can change the way we, and society at large, think, combat and report on sexual assault.
You may have already come across some of the ground breaking solutions that have recently launched; from colour changing nail varnish that detect drugs in spiked drinks, to apps which will help you walk home safely at night. But these are just the starting point.
Now it’s your turn to take on sexual assault and to help make Manchester a safer place.
We are offering you the opportunity to begin building new solutions to tackle sexual assault. This event is for people who might already have ideas or those who have no idea on what needs to be done. We’ll be giving you a crash course in entrepreneurship, design thinking and rapid prototyping. You’ll start this event only knowing the problem, but you’ll leave with a solution.
17.30 – Welcome networking (food and drinks)
18.00 – Sexual assault in Manchester presentation
18.15 – Introduction to rapid prototyping
18.45 – Rapid prototyping (ideating, testing and building services or products to combat sexual assault)
19.45 – Pitches
20.00 – Close
XSolve is an event to encourage student entrepreneurship, to look at new ways of finding solutions to some of Manchester’s most hard hitting problems. We’re here to push people to think differently about the way they see problems and how collaborative thinking can change the way we build products and services to make the world a better place.
Join us to have your voice heard and be part of an event that could bring about real positive social change.
